General Dentistry
General dentistry covers a wide range of procedures.
This most likely includes the initial consultation and diagnostics which involves x-rays, OPG and possibly IMPRESSIONS for replacing teeth or a tooth.
In terms of treatments, we offer all of the following:
Fillings: When you have a cavity, fillings is what dentist do to cure that! The teeth can be filled with a variety of materials which include glass ionomer , zinc oxide eugenol and composite resin fillings.
Dentures: If you have quite a few teeth missing, maybe because of an accident or disease, dentures will help. There are different ways to rehabilitate the missing tooth like removable dentures, fixed dentures, or implants. Dentures look and act the same way as natural teeth.
Dental cleaning: This procedure does not only help with having nice breath and pearly teeth. Teeth Cleanings will also prevent other diseases in the body such as heart disease, diabetes, tooth loss, and dementia!
Bonding: This procedure is when a type of resin is used as a glue to piece together material, such as a veneer to a tooth. It is often used to treat stained or damaged teeth.
Veneers: are used to fix cavities or broken teethand to improve the look of healthy teeth. Veneers are applied to the entire front surface of the tooth, whereas bonding is applied to a smaller portion of the tooth. Bonding and veneers make your teeth look better by changing their colour, shape, angle or spacing. Veneers are also used for teeth that are chipped or cracked, that have spaces between them or that are discoloured.
Crowns: these are artificial teeth or ‘caps’ which can be fitted over broken or damaged teeth. These will maintain their structure and protect them from further damage.
Bridge: this is a structure which contains an artificial tooth or ‘pontic’ which is anchored to a couple of crowns. These crowns fit over the natural teeth on either side of a gap which help to secure the false tooth in place and so ensure a natural looking appearance.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges. Symptoms of the infection are generally acute dental pain or sensitivity to hot, cold or percussion. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required.
Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth, to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they work. It can also help to look after the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by spreading the biting pressure over all your teeth.
Gum Treatment
Gum treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. We will evaluate the extent of your periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment. The pocket or space between the tooth and gums gets filled with bacteria, plaque and tartar, causing irritation to the surrounding tissues. When these irritants remain in the pocket space, they can cause damage to the gums and eventually, the bone that supports the teeth. If the disease is caught in the early stages of gingivitis, and no damage has been done, one to two regular cleanings will be recommended. If the disease has progressed to more advanced stages, a special periodontal cleaning called scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) will be recommended. If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth easier to clean.
Pediatric Dental Care
Pediatric dentistry is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. Children begin to get their baby teeth during the first 6 months of life. By age 6 or 7 years, they start to lose their first set of teeth, which eventually are replaced by secondary, permanent teeth. Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications.
The various treatment for child dental care are:
- Preventive dental care including cleaning and fluoride treatments, as well as nutrition and diet recommendations
- straightening teeth and correcting an improper bite (orthodontics)
- Repair of tooth cavities or defects
